Author's Notes:
Happy New Year! And happy second year of Seaworthy, starting right now! The Captain seems to be having a bit of amnesia about the fact that he's the subject of a totally hilarious comic strip. After all, wasn't he talking to the audience in the first couple of episodes? Oh well, that was a whole year ago. A whole year... wow. And to think I only managed to put out about 37 Seaworthy comics in a whole year! Pathetic! I'm going to try to raise that number to 52 this year (52 weeks in a year): it's a modest goal, but who knows what will happen in 2008. If WWIII happens in 2008, for example, I'll probably miss an update or two when I'm reduced to living in a lead-lined metal shack in the middle of the nuclear desert. But to be a little more optimistic, I am going for an update every week in 2008! And to improve my odds, I just got a totally kickass drawing table for my birthday (which incidentally was on January 1), complete with one of those cool engineer light things. I used it to draw today's comic and it was totally fun! I'll post a picture of it soon (gasp, an actual photograph??); in the meantime, look at the drawing table in panel 3 of today's comic: that's basically what it is.
Panel 2 might need a bit of explaining as well, since not all of the things there may strike you as particularly spectacular victories. The encounter with "Zaaladar, Guardian of the Deep" was a victory in the loosest sense of the word because the crew managed to escape with their lives (as is evidenced by their continued adventures thereafter). The bloody cricket match perhaps wasn't a victory by cricket rules, but the Captain definitely kicked a lot of ass in that episode! And of course there were the more definite victories on the bottom: the merfolk that the Captain captured and cooked, and the Vampirate that the Captain killed with his unholy breath! It all works out! Happy 2008, everyone! Expect great new adventures to unfold this year in the realm of Seaworthy!
