All right, the NEW COMIC has been posted, much to your surprise (albeit quite late which I'm sure is no surprise at all). This comic acts as a second part to the comic before it, and should have probably followed it up sooner than it did. Still, I do what I can, and here it is. Hope you enjoy! Real life calls, so I'm afraid this is all the commentary I can write for now. There are major site updates in the works for now, so please stay tuned to the website.

Well, I think it's been proven that I am a bad webcomic artist. Once a month seems to be my average comic posting time lately. Make no mistake, this is a drag to both you and me. I wish I could put them out more frequently, but I am having trouble finding the discipline to work on them regularly, and it has been a while (a LONG while) since my last big kick of productivity. After my long absence, I decided to do a "one-pager" comic (called such because the drawn comic fits on one 8.5x11" sheet of paper) as a warm-up/welcome-back type comic just because I knew I was going to be rusty revisiting characters that I USED to draw in the distant past. Well, the character design wasn't a problem (apparently they are permanently ingrained on my mind) but what I found was that I had lost any proficiency that I had ever had (very little, admittedly) at drawing a straight line, keeping my hand steady, inking, or even holding a pencil! Therefore, the disgraceful end product before you is the result of my relearning how to make a comic, more or less. Actually, the finished comic is not nearly so bad as I thought it was going to look (drawn and inked alone, it looks awful). I really need to make comics more often so I don't come back with shaky hands that don't remember how to draw.
So there you have it: the product of about 5 hours' work. Please enjoy today's comic. Oh, and if anyone else has a problem with putting things off and being terribly undisciplined individuals like myself, and you have any tricks that you pull to force yourself to get these things done, I would love to hear your suggestions so that I may use them on myself and maybe put this comic out a little more often. Plus I think I need to get on with the main storyline soon and that gets rather interesting, so perhaps my own interest will perk up a little more. Anyway, enjoy and thank you to everyone who still reads and votes for this comic even when there is rarely anything new on the site; I hope I am able to reward your efforts soon.

Well folks, the new comic is drawn and inked. Boy, have I lost my touch in the last month of inactivity. Anyway, let it be known that you will have a new comic to look at later today (more like tonight). A little at a time, folks. Please check back tonight for the new episode.

NEW COMIC!

A very special thanks to Theresa for bringing us today's guest comic! I am about 5 hours away from a long, LONG flight to Japan and I really need to get some rest. Sorry for being short. Since there was only one guest comic submission this will have to do until I return (two weeks). Enjoy!

HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13th!! OOOOHH!!! AHHHHH!!! Since this day is bad luck, I didn't put a comic up (yeah, that's the reason), so it'll have to wait until next week. Next week I will publish TWO comics: the one that was supposed to go up today will be posted on Tuesday, and the Guest comic from a super special fan will go up on Friday, the day that I am leaving for the Land of the Rising Sun. Have a good weekend, and stay tuned!

The new comic has been posted. An official statement is forthcoming...
05-30-2008
Hello fans! Expect a new Uggers & Jooge double feature up later today, and next week... new Seaworthy comic!
05-16-2008

YET MORE NEW INCENTIVE COMICS ARE UP!

I think the big letters are effective at getting the point across! Two more comics, and all you need to do is vote [twice] to see them! I'm on vacation in Alaska next week, but luckily I will have the incentive comics for next week "rigged" so that they automatically go up on Friday. Neato, huh? Okay everyone, enjoy the new comics and have a nice weekend and next week!
05-09-2008

TWO MORE NEW INCENTIVE COMICS POSTED

Indeed, there are two new voting incentive comics up for your entertainment. As usual, just click the two vote buttons to the right to see each of the new Uggers & Jooge comics! There you go! I hope you enjoy them! Sorry, long week and I have very little to say. Adios!

NEW INCENTIVE COMICS POSTED

Yes, there are, in fact, two new voting incentive comics that are up and ready for your viewing pleasure (wow, the first incentive comics of 2008!). This is the long-awaited return of the critically acclaimed "Uggers & Jooge," featuring never-before-seen content that will blow you away!! All you have to do to access them is vote for my comix, both at BcX and at TWC (the two vote buttons in the right column of this page). To reiterate (in red, so that readers who are only skimming for information can see it more easily), there are TWO incentive comics, one behind the white BuzzComix vote button and one behind the blue Top Web Comics vote button! Please visit them both for twice the laughs!
So basically, that's how it's going to be: two Uggers & Jooge comics every Friday, one for each voting button. I'm going to be working extra hard for your votes in May! Actually, since the three-panel, black and white Uggers & Jooge strips are so very easy to produce (like 1% of the work that a full-page, full-color Seaworthy comic takes), I will likely continue producing them even when I get back to doing the main comic. I will decide later if I will cut back to one incentive comic per week, but I have options there. I have been considering doing a "Seaworthy Short" for a new incentive series going forward, but that really is just an inkling for now. Anyway, enjoy the new incentive comics, and see you later!
05-01-1008
Happy May Day! Awww, I couldn't stay away for a whole month... there will be a special INCENTIVE COMIC posted tomorrow, on Friday (the usual update day). Be there or be square! See ya!
04-18-2008
Well, folks, the damn comic is finally out! And only a month late! And now we can put that ridiculous "Sword of Storms" series (as it will henceforth be called, as it was in my comic notes) to rest! Now, you may just think that I'm a lazy bastard for taking so long to put that comic out, and that is part of the problem... but in reality there are a lot of crappy things going on that are preventing me (physically and mentally) from getting these comics done on time, or at all. The main excuse I have is that I am in the process of a very strenuous move into a townhome, so I am mentally preoccupied with that while at the same time being physically involved in cleaning and packing. Therefore, and this shouldn't surprise you too much or have much of an impact on my actual release schedule, I will be taking a hiatus until the last week of May (the next comic will premiere on May 30). This is a good time to take a break, as a series has just ended.
In other news, I will be on vacation to Japan in late June. So I figure I will just put the word out there that I will be accepting guest comic submissions to fill that week, as by that time you will all undoubtably be fed up with a comic not being posted! So if you like, please submit a guest comic of any size and with any subject matter, and I will pick my favorite one to appear as the guest comic for then. I will judge the comics based on artwork, story, compliance with this site's PG-13 rating, and relevance to Seaworthy or the nautical theme in general. Comics do not necessarily have to be humorous, though I do like to laugh. If you have your own comic series, cross-over comics are encouraged (and they are a good way to promote your OWN comic). Although realistically I realize that I may not receive any submissions at all, if I get enough submissions I will be able to break this little hiatus with some reader-submitted comics to break the monotony.
Well, that's all, please email me at mail@seaworthycomic.com with your guest comic submissions! And please remember to vote! And I'll see you at the end of May!
04-17-2008
Further delays imminent... The comic WILL be up by the end of the day on Friday... and after that I am going to have to take a hiatus until the last week of May due to moving concerns. More of an update will follow the posting of the comic, so please check back then.
04-11-2008
Sunday... the comic will be up by Sunday! Please believe me and check back then! I am up to my neck in @#$% right now!
04-04-2008
The cliffhanger time increases! HA HA HA!! Yes, your favorite idiot webcomic artist has again FAILED to meet his Friday deadline. Several circumstances that will remain unspecified led to this, but this time I'm not going to make you immaculately patience people wait for a whole week. The comic will be out on Monday this week; seriously, I'm almost done with it. Monday is when most of you first read the new comics anyway. I hope you understand. Enjoy you weekend!
03-28-2008
It may have come to your attention that there is no comic today. Thus, the comic will be appearing a day late. Sorry to keep you waiting! Ciao!
03-22-2008
Well, I always try to make good on my word, and this week I actually managed to do it, albeit very, very late! The NEW COMIC HAS BEEN POSTED! WOO HOO! It wasn't easy, but I managed to get it up. The Treasure Hunt continues, and is rapidly approaching a SHOCKING, UNEXPECTED, CONTROVERSIAL, AND OTHERWISE SENSATIONAL CONCLUSION!! You won't believe your eyes! But not until next week... until then, enjoy the comic this week.
Sorry that I have been habitually late for the last few weeks (well, for the entire lifetime of this comic, really). I will try, try, try, try to do better next week! Have a great weekend everyone (and Happy Easter too)!
03-21-2008
Hello, devoted fans. The comic is going to be a little late today. I have been swamped at work to the point that my work day has been extended beyond my usual come-home time rather significantly. Therefore, I have been able to draw, ink, and do some coloring on the comic last night, but unfortunately I was unable to finish before I just crashed from exhaustion. There, the comic will be up sometime tonight, after I get home from work (they don't usually keep us late on Fridays) and finish it up. Sorry for the delay; I really wish it didn't have to be this way. Thanks for understanding!
03-17-2008
Pete is a big ol' LIAR! No St. Patty's Day special comic or nothing! I'm very sorry folks, but after reviewing my script for the special comic, and a couple of disparaging remarks from my "inner proofreader," I decided that the comic wasn't funny enough to justify making it into a fully illustrated and colored comic. This is one of only a few times when I've had to shelf a comic idea, which I don't like doing, but sometimes it has to be done. Many of you might even feel that there have been several other times when I should have done this! Oh well, I'll have another chance when St. Patrick's Day rolls around again in 2009! That should give me plenty of time to retool the idea and make it FRICKIN' HILARIOUS. So sorry again, but it looks as though I've missed another update. The "Treasure Hunt Series," as its working title is (for now), will continue as scheduled this Friday. If I miss that update, I will commit ritual hara-kiri on YouTube (that should be a good incentive to get the thing done this time!). See you Friday!
03-15-2008
Hi folks. Well, you're probably disappointed to see that there's no new comic up. The hecticity of my week has carried nicely over into my weekend. So now you're probably also disappointed that I made up the word "hecticity." Well, as the author of this website and a writer in general, I feel , even inclined, to manipulate my native language as I see fit. English (American English, so as not to offend any of the Queen's Men) is only as real as the people who use it, and I'm using it with fake words thrown into the mix! I'm following in the vein of Bill Shakespeare! Okay, maybe this is a dumb rant, but people tell me "That isn't a word" a lot, to which I say "It is now!" A word is a word as soon as somebody uses it. How do you think any word got to be a word? Because people started using them! SO I don't feel the need to limit myself to using only the words that are found in the Oxford English Dictionary (unless I'm playing Scrabble). Okay, I suddenly feel very, very pretentious for typing that last bit (all of it). Please ignore!
So anyway, here's my New Deal with America (and everyone else in the world; I didn't forget you!): the comic for this week is cancelled. BOOOO! But the good news is, there will be a St. Patrick's Day special comic on Monday (3/17), and then we will get back to our regularly scheduled programming that Friday (3/21). So that isn't so bad, right? Hopefully. Okay, well, please check back on Monday; I know from my StatCounter that a lot of you wait until then to read the new Friday comics, so this shouldn't affect you terribly. Have a good weekend everyone!
03-13-2008
Hello everyone! I'm just letting you all know that tomorrow's update will come a day late (on Saturday). I have had one extremely busy week without much time to work on the comic, so instead of worrying myself about it during the work week I will be spending a portion of my Friday afternoon/evening finishing it up. The finished product should be posted no later than Saturday morning, so you can check it out when you get up early to watch cartoons. Also, I'm hoping to get a super special update finished for this coming Monday (March 17), but that all depends on how much time I have to work on it during my busy weekend (seriously, I have a very full weekend). If I can't get it done for Monday I have half a mind to make it my weekly update for next week and delay the next installment of the Treasure Hunt another week! I hope it doesn't come to that. So don't fret yourself about getting online to check the new comic tomorrow, as it won't be up until the day after! Thanks for understanding!
03-10-2008
Okay, today's update is FINALLY up! I have updated the Crew Manifest to include the profiles of Artois, Jean-Baptiste, and "The Kid!" Enjoy those. Yep, that's the Monday Update. I was hit with a rather debilitating disease that left me bed-ridden all weekend, so I was unable to work on the update this weekend. Thus it is a bit late in coming online. Well, enjoy, and I'll see you back here on Friday for the new comic! Please vote, and have a good week!
UPDATE!
This informative update is to inform you that there will be a MONDAY update next week! Mysterious Monday... wait and see what that is all about.
03-07-2008
Part FIVE of the Treasure Hunt series has been posted today, officially making this the longest story-arc in the history of Seaworthy... and it's not over yet! Yes, the plot continues onward, whilst at the same time thickening all the while! Errr, yes...
Enough about that. In non-comic-related news, I am hard at work designing and testing a new design for the site that will hopefully be a major improvement over the old one (except to those of you who bitterly resist change). I have got a template figured out and I am doing some server-side testing on it to see how it works. Unfortunately, it's not ready to debut this week, but it will have to be implemented soon as fixing my Guestlog rather depends on it (don't ask). In addition to this up-and-coming change, I hope to have a new VOTING INCENTIVE image for you to look at soon, as I realized I haven't really put one up in almost three months (I've been focusing on other things... AHEM, World of Warcraft). Look for that soon. Also, I am planning a special comic for an upcoming holiday (guess which one!), so that is in the works as well.
For now, enjoy the new comic, and please feel free to vote if you happen to like it. Thanks for reading!
02-29-2008
Part Four of the treasure-hunting series has been posted as is ready for your scrutiny. I'll have you know before reading it that the Captain and his away team have reached the FINAL AND MOST DANGEROUS trap in this treasure cave of death, and so that means that the Captain will have to use all his cunning to overcome the obstacle ahead! Will he make it? Will he walk away with the treasure? Or even with his LIFE? I'm not telling! You'll have to wait and see as the series progresses like everyone else!
Good sweet Kali, have you noticed that there are some PROBLEMS with this site? Problems that I seemingly refuse to address? I know, I know! Most obviously (and most commented on) is the problem with the Guestlog. For those of you who don't want anyone to know that you've lowered yourself to visiting this site and therefore never even considered signing the Guestlog, you haven't noticed that the Guestlog has been under SPAM-Attack for the past couple of months, sometimes getting in excess of 300 new entries per day that simply say "40." Let's all take a moment to put our energies together to put a wicked curse on the jackass who is responsible for this! MAY HE/SHE BE DOOMED TO LIVE LIFE WITH A TERRIBLE ITCHY FULL-BODY RASH THAT NO AMOUNT OF SCRATCHING OR SALVES CAN EVER RELIEVE!! Oh well, maybe that will work and maybe it won't. It doesn't much matter though: I will have to replace the Guestlog in order to stop this ridiculous automated posting. Something with some sort of encryption where you have to type the random letters and numbers to protect against this sort of thing in the future.
Unfortunately, to do that, I have to add the new link to EVERY single page on the website, because when I first started this website, I was too short-sighted to design it with SSI or PHP in mind (not to mention that my original hosting plan didn't support those things). This site needs a major overhaul, and let's face it: until I get my Paladin to level 70 in WoW I'm going to be hard-pressed to devote time to making a site change. I think when this current story arc is over, I will probably have to take a week off to devote some time to getting the site "modernized" a bit. That won't be for a few weeks though, so don't worry about it. Anyway, this is quite a blurb, but I've run out of things to say for now. Enjoy the comic! Have a nice weekend!
02-22-2008
Surprised? A new comic has been posted again this week! Once again, it is late and I am tired, but I fully plan to update the monologuical portion of this week's update after work tomorrow. I am just too... I can't... I can't go on! I will walk approximately five steps toward the bed now and probably pass out halfway there face-down on the carpet, which will be an embarassing imprint on my face in the morning. Ciao, everyone! Check back tomorrow around 5:00pm CST and there should be more of an update. See ya!
02-15-2008
Absolutely amazing... I've actually decided to make a NEW COMIC today! I'll bet you thought I was going to go all Quantum Leap on you and leave you hanging FOREVER with that unfinished story arc, but I've decided to continue on! So today you get another glimpse at what is going on with this oddball treasure hunt that the Captain has gotten himself (and his crew) into!
I think I am finally over my slump for drawing the comic now; I play a lot LOT less World of Warcraft than I did, say, two weeks ago, and I would actually rather draw than shoot myself in the foot these days! I feel kind of like I did when I came off of that two-month break last year: ready to make a whole bunch of comics (but I don't want to jinx it)! So if you have been waiting by the computer for me to come out with more comics, more comics are coming your way! If you happen to have just wandered in for your monthly check since you've basically given up on me, well... don't give up! I'm back, and I'm ready to rock the pencil and paper! Stay tuned for more in the very near future, and enjoy the new comic!
02-14-2008
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, everyone! Well, you may not believe this, but this week's comic... is ALL SET TO GO for tomorrow! Yes, I'm back! I'm back and ready to entertain you with my crazy nautical ways! Terribly sorry to leave you hanging right after I started a series comic, but the long wait is almost over! In the meantime, snuggle up with your favorite man/woman/bottle for St. Valentine's Day, and remember to check back to the site tomorrow for the new comic!
02-08-2008
Happy Friday! Well, my motivational team (i.e. my brother) finally started getting on my case about not getting the comic out, and especially for leaving you all with a 2-week cliffhanger. Well, I gave it some thought, and I've decided that I need another week off to collect my thoughts before I continue with the story. One more week to get focused. One more week... to power-level my Paladin in WoW. Please don't get discouraged! I have a great story all lined up for you, so when it gets made you will think it was worth the wait! Thanks for your understanding, and if the gods are willing I will see you all next week!
01-31-2008
So soon after my last announcement, I have another annoucement to make... more of a confession, really. You may all have noticed that my update schedule has been extremely erratic, with multiple missed updates. Well, now I'm going to come clean, so that you all know the reason why. I admit, with more than a touch of embarassment and shame, that I am addicted to...
The ol' "Webcomic Killer" itself, has got me in its clutches! Scientific studies have shown that World of Warcraft is more addictive than nicotine, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and black tar heroin put together. It's powerful stuff. So, you may wonder "how could the comic possibly continue in the face of this HUGE and DANGEROUS new development?" Well, there is hope for me yet! I usually skip two weeks on the comic and then feel so guilty that I can't stop pumping them out for 10 weeks straight after that! Not to mention that I will have my main character up to level 70 before too long, and then I'll get bored of the game for a while. So while I'm sorry about no comic (again) this week, let it be known that all is not lost! LOST? Speaking of which, LOST is on tonight! Go watch it! See you next time, folks!
01-31-2008
Hear ye, hear ye! By proclamation of the Lord of the Land (me), comics will henceforth be issues on the Friday of every week. And yea shall Friday thus be known as "the day of the comic's coming." Yes, it is because I'm lazy. Look for the coming of this week's coming on Friday (and every comic after that). Good day!
01-24-2008
I forgot to mention today that there will be no comic this week. Sorry, but a lot of things have been going wrong this week, and this year is generally off to a rocky start in general. So I am sorry to disappoint everyone who wants to hear more about the treasure hunt, but you'll have to wait until next week. In the meantime, I have identified several blocks of time during the week where I could work on the comic an hour or so at a time (during times when usually I'm just sitting around bored). Please stay tuned next week. Thanks, everyone.
01-17-2008
Happy Thursday! It's NEW COMIC DAY!! Today, the Captain makes a serious of bad decisions that result in a bruised head, a badly burned hand, and another wild goose chase in the first episode of a new story arc! I figured it was about time for another one of those! So here it is, the first episode of another multi-comic plot. I don't want to talk to much about it, since the true plot hasn't been revealed yet, but it'll be fun. That's right, I'm a secrecy nut. Not that when the secret is revealed it will seem like it was worth it. Okay, now I'm just rambling in a self-deprecating way. I will stop. Enjoy today's comic and, hey, maybe give me a vote or two if you like it! Have a nice day!
01-10-2008
Hello everyone. Since it's the new year, I can make a bunch of ridiculous random decrees just because it suits me and I can get away with it because it's that time of year where you can make drastic changes just because the calendar year has incremented by one! First thing: run-on sentences like the last one are okay! Second thing: I am too sick to do the comic this week, and that's no joke. I wasn't going to make an excuse, but that's it. Don't worry, though: next week, I will begin... another story-arc comic! So stay tuned, and thanks for putting up with me!
01-03-2008
Happy 2008, everyone, and welcome to the second year of Seaworthy! I can't believe it's been a whole year since the comic started... in fact, looking back I think 2007 was the shortest year ever in the history of years! Except for maybe back in 1582 when we switched from the Julian to the Gregorian Calendar and half of October got nixed... but that's a tangent. 2007 was a very great starting year for Seaworthy, which got over 8,600 unique visits last year! Of course, the first few months were a bit slow (thank you to everyone who read the comic during those formative months), especially during the "off" months, but I expect to keep my current momentum going and double that number in 2008! And I think that is a very realistic goal! So this is the kickoff for the New Year, right here, today!
Something I had planned to do was to overhaul the site for 2008, something that revolved generally around the idea that the site resolution would be lowered. When I polled you, the readers, about that little matter, however, I didn't exactly get an overwhelming mandate to make that change. So the new site version project sort of rolled to a halt. But looking at it now, I think the site could definitely use a few tune-ups. So since I didn't make it for the new year, I'll just tentatively throw it out there and say that I should have plenty of nice site updates and enhancements out there by the sacred holiday of St. Groundhog's Day. So about a month. In the meantime, enjoy TODAY'S COMIC and get ready for the very nautical year of new Seaworthy fun and adventure!
